Breast Augmentation
Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance by creating a better balance for your overall body proportions. Your newly enhanced breasts will look better in clothes complementing your self-confidence and self-esteem. Dr. Heidari evaluates the unique characteristics of each patient’s breasts to better decide the type of implant, and the proper position of the implant for the best cosmetic results.
The ideal candidates for breast augmentation are:
1. Women who are looking for improvement in their figure and are bothered by their feelings that their breasts are too small
2. Women who have small breasts or loss of breast volume following having children and/or breast-feeding, are typically good candidates for breast augmentation
3. Women with one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other
4. Women whose weight loss has changed the shape and or size of the breast
A breast implant is a solid silicone shell filled with a saltwater solution known as saline. If the implant leaks, the saline is absorbed into the body. This is the same as if the saline were given as an IV fluid. Newly improved FDA approved silicone gel-filled implants are now available for you, if you are 22 years or older. Extensive research and development has gone into these new silicone implants to make them safer and feel more natural.
Dr. Heidari can place the incision in a number of different locations. Every effort is made to assure that the incision is placed so the resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible. After the incision is made, a pocket is created either under the breast tissue or under the pectoralis muscle. This pocket is made just large enough to accommodate the implant. The implant is then positioned to give the best cosmetic result.
Recovery
Following the surgery, a gauze dressing is placed on the breast with a surgical bra. This helps reduce swelling. Dr. Heidari will prescribe antibiotics to avoid infection in addition to pain medication. Stitches are removed in 4 to 7 days., and a support bra is worn for 4-5 weeks. Swelling, bruising and numbness, particularly around the incision, are normal and generally subside over 6 weeks. Most patients return to work in 7 to 10 days but must avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities for 4 to 6 weeks.
Breast Lift

Breast Lift
As time passes, skin looses some of its elasticity. For some women, this leads to breast sagging, which can be severe. Childbearing and nursing also contribute to breast sagging. A breast lift is used to restore the shape and firmness of breasts to a higher position and/or to reduce the size of the areola (the dark area encircling the nipple).
Dr. Heidari performs breast lifts on an outpatient basis using a general anesthetic. A lollipop- shaped incision is made that goes around the areola, vertically from the areola to the natural crease under the breast and minimally horizontally across the crease under the breast. Excess skin is removed and the areola is repositioned. The incision is sutured closed. Dr. Heidari uses a modified procedure for women with smaller breasts or with less sagging. In the modified procedure, an incision is made around the areola only, which limits the amount of scarring. All excess skin is removed, the areola is replaced and the incision is closed. The surgery generally takes between 1-1/2 and 3 hours. It is very important for you to be evaluated by Dr. Heidari to determine which type of breast lift best suits you.
The ideal candidates for breast lift are:
1. Women with deflated breasts that are asymmetrical
2. Women with very large nipple/areola complexes
3. Women with pendulous breasts with nipples and areolas that point downward
Recovery
Following the surgery, a gauze dressing is placed on the breast along with a surgical bra. This helps reduce swelling. Dr. Heidari will prescribe antibiotics to avoid infection in addition to pain medication. Stitches are removed in 4 to 7 days, and a support bra is worn over for 4-5 weeks. Swelling, bruising, and numbness, particularly around the incision, are normal and generally subside over 6 weeks. Most patients return to work in 10 to 14 days but must avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities for 4 to 6 weeks.
Breast Reduction

Breast Reduction
Patients who undergo breast reduction surgery frequently are seeking relief from physical symptoms caused by the excessive weight of large breasts. Breast reduction usually can solve these problems as well as improve the size and shape of your breasts. Following breast reduction, your breasts will be more proportional to the rest of your body and will be lifted as well. Not only will your clothes fit you better, you will feel and look better as well.
The ideal candidates for breast reduction are:
1. Women with breasts that are too large in proportion to the body frame
2. Women with heavy, pendulous breasts with nipples and areolas that point downward
3. Women with one breast that is much larger than the other
4. Women with back, neck or shoulder pain caused by the weight of their breasts
5. Women with skin irritation beneath their breasts
6. Women with indentations in their shoulders from tight bra straps
7. Women with restriction of physical activity due to the size and weight of their breasts
Breast reduction can be performed at any age, but Dr. Heidari usually recommends waiting until breast development has stopped. Childbirth and breast-feeding may have significant and unpredictable effects on the size and shape of your breasts. Nevertheless, many women decide to undergo breast reduction before having children and feel that they can address any subsequent changes later. If you plan to breast-feed in the future, you should discuss this with Dr. Heidari.

Breast Reconstruction

Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction has become one of the most rewarding surgical procedures performed today. Each year, many women become afflicted with breast cancer. Unfortunately for many, this disease leads to the removal of one or both breasts. However, advancements in breast reconstruction have allowed Dr. Heidari to actually recreate a breast that is very close in look and feel to that of a natural breast. Dr. Heidari can accomplish this through the use of breast implants and skin expansion or flap reconstruction techniques. Dr. Heidari can perform breast reconstruction immediately after the breast removal, or mastectomy. This allows the woman to awaken from surgery and not see herself missing a breast.
Some chest wall deformities cause severe breast deformities such as lack of development of chest muscles or/and breast tissue. Dr. Heidari uses the most recent advances in use of expanders and specialty implants to reconstruct the female breast.
Not only can breast reconstruction help improve appearance; it has helped many women improve their quality of life and regain a sense of femininity. Breast reconstruction is often performed in stages. There are a lot of different options available. That is why it is important for a patient to discuss her options with Dr. Heidari during a personalized consultation.
Breast Revision

Breast Revision
Breast deformity can sometimes occur after breast enhancement surgery. These deformities can be due to infections, trauma, improper implant choice and placement. Dr. Heidari has treated hundreds of patients who were dissatisfied with their breast lift or augmentation. There are specific revisions that are necessary for different deformities.
Capsular Contracture (breast hardness) can occur as soon as 4-6 weeks after the original surgery. A capsule forms around any foreign body placed within the human body, like the breast implant. This capsule can get hardened usually in response to a trauma or an infection and can be mild to very severe. Capsular contracture rate can be higher when implants are placed above the muscle than below the muscle. Therefore, a breast augmentation that is performed should be done sub pectoral (behind the muscle) for better results. After a revision, Dr. Heidari places the implants under the muscle for a more natural effect.
Capsulotomy/ Capsulectomy is a procedure where the hardened capsule is opened and released or sometimes partially or totally removed. This allows for a softer breast for you. Sometimes, removing the capsule also may reduce the incidence of recurrent scar tissue, but this has not always been found to be the case. Just because the capsule is removed, does not mean that they will not reoccur. Dr. Heidari evaluates your unique physical anatomy and of your breast and chest wall, as well as the placement of your implants by your previous surgeon.
Removing or Replacing Breast Implants depends upon your previous surgery. If the implants are in good shape and are not ruptured, often, they may be left in place and a new implant may not be required. However, some studies have found that capsular contracture may be associated with micro-infections; therefore, removing the implants, replacing them with new ones after cleaning and irrigating the pocket with antibiotic solution, may help to reduce recurrent infection and capsular contracture.
Double bubble breast deformities can occur where the improper surgery was performed to correct breast sagging or constricted breast deformity. In these cases, there are two problems at the same time. The first problem is that there is a loss of volume of the breast, requiring a breast implant, usually sub pectoral. Second is the excess skin that needs to be removed with the appropriate type of breast lift. Dr. Heidari often uses a combination of augmentation and breast lifting in order to remove extra skin and to give you a normal-appearing breast.
Body size and proper implant size are important in determining the right proportions. Prior your breast revision surgery, Dr. Heidari considers many different factors. Physical characteristics such as your weight, height, breast and hip width affect the size of the implant needed to provide the right cup size. Along with these physical factors, Dr. Heidari also considers your profession in deciding with you as to what implant size is appropriate for your specific body type. As a general rule, Dr. Heidari prefers full projection implants that give you much better projection and fullness without making your chest look heavier.
Male Breast Reduction

Male breast Reduction
Though few people talk about it, gynecomastia is fairly common. This affects an estimated 40-60% of men. Gynecomastia is a medical term that comes from the Greek and literally means “woman-like breasts.” It can affect one breast or both. Although certain drugs and medical problems are linked to gynecomastia, there is no known cause in the majority of cases. For men who are self-conscious about their breasts, male breast reduction surgery can help. The procedure removes fat and glandular tissue from the breasts and, in extreme cases, excess skin may also be removed. The result is a chest that is flatter, firmer, and with a more athletic look.
Ideal candidates for male breast reduction surgery:
1- Healthy males with good elasticity of their skin
2- Teen-aged males with normal blood hormones and no liver dysfunction
3- Males who do not drink excessive alcohol, take anabolic steroid or smoke marijuana
Gynecomastia occurs frequently among teen males because of hormone fluctuations, but naturally resolves itself over time in most cases. When gynecomastia does not resolve by itself, Dr. Heidari performs breast reduction on teen-aged boys, as large breasts on a teenager can be embarrassing for them and create psychological and social problems. Surgery is discouraged for men who are overweight unless they have first attempted to correct the problem with exercise or weight loss. For some men the condition is hereditary; for others, medical conditions such as cancer and impaired liver function contribute to the problem. Today, men with fatty deposits that create raised breast areas can take advantage of a surgical technique to remove the fatty deposits and excess tissue. Dr. Heidari performs male breast reduction surgery on an outpatient basis using either a light general anesthetic or local anesthesia. This depends on the amount of tissues to be removed. A small incision is made at the bottom of the areola (the brown area encircling the nipple). Dr. Heidari then removes any excessive glandular tissue and skin. He often includes liposuction in the procedure for optimal contouring of the chest. The surgery generally takes about 2 hours. Sometimes, drainage tubes are used for the first two to three days to help remove excess fluid. Your chest will likely be wrapped to help reduce swelling. Some swelling, bruising and numbness are normal and will subside over time. Stitches are removed in 1 to 2 weeks after the surgery.
Recovery:
You can return to work within 4 to 7 days. An elastic pressure garment is worn for 3 to 6 weeks, and sports and strenuous activity are limited for 3 to 4 weeks after the surgery. Patients should avoid direct sun exposure or salon tanning for 6 months.
