Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation can enhance your appearance by creating a better balance for your overall body proportions. Your newly enhanced breasts will look better in clothes complementing your self-confidence and self-esteem. Dr. Heidari evaluates the unique characteristics of each patient’s breasts to better decide the type of implant, and the proper position of the implant for the best cosmetic results.

The ideal candidates for breast augmentation are:

1.  Women who are looking for improvement in their figure and are bothered by their feelings that their breasts are too small

2.  Women who have small breasts or loss of breast volume following having children and/or breast-feeding, are typically good candidates for breast augmentation

3.  Women with one breast that is noticeably smaller than the other

4.  Women whose weight loss has changed the shape and or size of the breast

A breast implant is a solid silicone shell filled with a saltwater solution known as saline. If the implant leaks, the saline is absorbed into the body. This is the same as if the saline were given as an IV fluid. Newly improved FDA approved silicone gel-filled implants are now available for you, if you are 22 years or older. Extensive research and development has gone into these new silicone implants to make them safer and feel more natural.

Dr. Heidari can place the incision in a number of different locations. Every effort is made to assure that the incision is placed so the resulting scars will be as inconspicuous as possible. After the incision is made, a pocket is created either under the breast tissue or under the pectoralis muscle. This pocket is made just large enough to accommodate the implant. The implant is then positioned to give the best cosmetic result.

Recovery

Following the surgery, a gauze dressing is placed on the breast with a surgical bra. This helps reduce swelling. Dr. Heidari will prescribe antibiotics to avoid infection in addition to pain medication. Stitches are removed in 4 to 7 days., and a support bra is worn for 4-5 weeks. Swelling, bruising and numbness, particularly around the incision, are normal and generally subside over 6 weeks. Most patients return to work in 7 to 10 days but must avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities for 4 to 6 weeks.
